Offshore & Renewables/ Nuclear

Project:

Hinkley Point C Nuclear Power Plant Jetty. To help reduce the amount of heavy goods vehicle deliveries on the local roads. The Jetty will allow 80% of aggregates needed for concrete production to be brought via sea transport throughout construction of the nuclear Site. The fabrication of the columns of the Jetty required large plates of 12m x 3m to be cut and weld prepped prior to rolling into tubes.

Solution:

Due to our large cutting beds we cut the parts with no issue and purchased a TAG Chamfering machine which allowed us to Mill various size weld preps with a machined finish.

Results:

Perfect weld Prep chamfers enabling the fabricator to get full penetration of weld on the rolled tubes which the customer was delighted with.
